#news: Pop stars LOVE playing Poker (including Madonna, Lady Gaga...)!
Over the last few years, it seems that everyone has caught onto the Texas Hold´em poker craze. Baseball and football players, actors, and rock stars have all jumped aboard the poker bandwagon. It shouldn't be surprising then that mainstream artists have joined the list of celebrities that play poker. So let's go ahead and mention a few of the ones who have recently fell in love with the game.
The ultimate "Material Girl" has been known to play poker from time to time, especially if it is for a good cause, because the Queen of Pop has to do things for help people, right? Madonna was among the list of stars that have played poker for the Shane Warne Foundation where players gather to play in a $10,000 NL Hold'em poker tournament with proceeds going to the foundation. The Shane Warne Foundation benefits seriously ill and underprivileged children in Australia.
Those overseas likely know the Irish pop star Shane Lynch. He made a name for himself as a member of Boyzone and later on in life started to take up the game of poker. He began playing in 2008 when he took part in the Ladbrokes Poker Festival and very quickly learned the ropes of the game. Soon he was signed by Ladbrokes, one of the premier online poker sites in the world. He now appears in events at the site and major live poker events all around the world.
While you may think that "Poker Face" was Lady Gaga's attempt to cash in on the Texas Hold'em craze sweeping the world, in reality she does play in poker games. This was first discovered back in 2009 when she took part in a Irish poker festival. Of course, she isn't a serious player, but at least she has the poker face concept down pat, which would explain why is it that "Poker Face" became her first massive hit (although "Just Dance" did help too, you know?).
Poker is a game enjoyed by Millions around the world. It shouldn't be shocking that pop stars would try their hand at it, especially with all the money that is out there in potential prizes. Granted, you probably won't see them turning pro in the game anytime soon, but it does make a fantastic and potentially profitable hobby.
And who knows, maybe next time you could caught Lady Gaga "bluffin' with her muffin'" next time you give a try, right?
